Within Chongqing's thriving municipality lies a world of untapped treasures, says Consul-General Simon Lever.Chongqing has been transformed since achieving municipal status some 14 years ago. Centrally located in mid-Western China, the city saw 17 per cent growth in 2010 and is likely to see US$600 billion in fixed investment over the next five years. Development at this pace throws up big challenges. The city sometimes resembles one big building site, and infrastructure is being put to the test. The authorities are also well aware of the danger of overheating. But few observers are betting against the continuation of Chongqing’s seemingly unstoppable rise.
