Architectural technology was the theme of the 6th UK-China Architecture Forum, held in Guangzhou by the China-Britain Business Council and the British Chamber of Commerce Guangdong on 26 June.
Over 100 attendees heard speakers from Chamber and CBBC members Arup, Intertek China and ATDESIGNOFFICE describe the latest software, performance-testing products and floating cities to an audience of Chinese and foreign industry professionals.
This year the forum took a closer look at how technology is re-shaping the industry as well as the new challenges it is posing – something touched upon in a recent report by the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS).
Mr Barry Wilson, Chairman of the Shenzhen branch of the British Chamber of Commerce Guangdong, and Mr Yinwen Huang, Deputy Secretary-General of Guangdong Real Estate Association, spoke to introduce proceedings.
The forum once again attracted a wide range of prominent guests from local architectural authorities and academic institutes, local developers, international architectural consultancies, engineering and construction companies, international real estate companies, construction and building material suppliers and interior design companies.
Mr Yang Wang, Associate Director of Arup, spoke on Building Information Modelling (BIM). Attendees were given an introduction to BIM software and how Arup is using it to develop more efficient and accurate processes.
Mr James Huang, General Manager of Intertek China Building Product Business Line, demonstrated how testing products can improve the performance of buildings, describing the importance of testing and how each building should be viewed from a unique perspective.
Mr Tony Fan, Director of ATDESIGNOFFICE, spoke on the theme of “How technologies shape our lives”, including the concept of the floating city, which has combined high-tech components with environmental considerations to ensure a more sustainable approach.
