The new British Business Centre in Beijing played host to its first event on 18 July, when a full house attended the latest meeting of BritCham/CBBC's Infrastructure & Property Forum.

CBBC sector lead Patrik Li (c) with Sanorita Li of UKTI and the co-chairs of the Infrastructure & Property Forum

The forum, on "Urban Planning and Regeneration", was the second of the year in this sector. Attendees heard peers in the infrastructure field give a rundown of their recent and ongoing projects in China, presented by Liu Ning of Space Syntax, Matthew Priestman of Priestman Architects and Xu Zhenqiang of the Chinese Society for Urban Studies, a body under the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development (Mohurd).

Forum members listen to the latest news from their sector

This event was a great forum for CBBC members to share their experience and showcase their expertise. I found it quite informative and helpful.

The British Business Centre is home to staff of the British Chamber of Commerce in China, the China-Britain Business Council and a number of Launchpads (what's a Launchpad?) who rent single desks in the office to give their company a base in China.

Members are welcome to hire the facilities for their own events or meetings. The new boardroom at the centre, near to Chaoyangmen, has been extended to accommodate large events and meetings; together with other meeting rooms there is space for up to 60 people.

British Business Centres have also been established in East China (Shanghai), where CBBC will co-locate with UKTI, the Consulate-General and the British Council, and in West China (Chengdu), where CBBC is together with the British Chamber of Commerce South-West China.
