The Rotary Club of Shanghai has announced its 2015 Rotary Leadership Awards, which will be held on Friday 22 May to recognise outstanding individuals, companies, non-profit programmes and students that are making significant socially responsible contributions in mainland China.
Supported by international chambers of commerce in Shanghai, the awards will recognise achievements in the areas of philanthropy, community outreach, volunteer programmes, employee initiatives, environmental educational efforts and sustainable community development.
The 2015 awards will have two categories:
  • a programme category for companies, non-profit organisations and students whose programmes or projects demonstrate extraordinary managerial and innovative excellence, have a high commitment to socially responsible activities, and represent outstanding models that encourage other individuals and organisations to be active in the community;
  • an individual category for individuals who have initiated significant community works, projects and programmes which, over time, have had a positive impact in the local community.
Judging will be done by a panel of experienced CSR practitioners and business professionals from around the world that work in a variety of industries. The judges will evaluate all eligible applications and the winners will be announced at the Rotary Leadership Awards. Non-corporate winners will receive funds specifically for use in their projects throughout the year. Winners will be announced at the Rotary Gala. Tickets and sponsorship opportunities for the Gala will be available soon.
Individuals, companies, students and non-profit organisations are welcome to apply by 15 March by emailing Bailin Hong at bailinhong@yahoo.com or downloading a form from www.rotaryshanghai.org.
Tara Strunk, chair of the event and member of the Rotary Club of Shanghai, said: “This is our fifth annual event and we are delighted how this event has grown in China. We enjoy learning about the exciting programmes helping people in China and feel that we share in their achievements by raising awareness and funds for our award winners. The Rotary Leadership Awards has an international flair that other events do not embody. In addition our event is organised by working professionals that are all committed to volunteering to [make] the event succeed and recognise outstanding individuals, corporates and non-profits.”
Shanghai’s Rotary Club was first founded in 1919 as part of Rotary International, the world’s largest voluntary organisation with 1.2 million members and more than 34,000 clubs in 200 countries.
