BritCham- CBBC member Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer is shaking up its China trainee solicitor recruitment campaign by targeting aspiring lawyers from UK universities.

China managing partner Teresa Ko is set to run three events across Cambridge, London and Oxford over two days (7 and 8 November), in a bid to find talented students to work in the firm’s Beijing, Hong Kong and Shanghai offices.

UK trainee recruitment manager Jessica Booker said: “China’s a growing market and to develop the business means we need to recruit and train the best.

We want people who are internationally minded and interested in learning more about our China practice.”

The London event, which takes place at the firm’s office on 8 November, will be open to law students at all levels of study. However, priority will be given to penultimate year law students with a 2:1 equivalent plus a high fluency in Mandarin and English.

The aspiring lawyers will have the opportunity to meet with Ko and the trainees who are on secondment from Hong Kong and learn more about a career in China.

Meanwhile, the events in Oxford and Cambridge are due to take place at lunchtime at the cities’ universities on 7 and 8 November respectively.

Booker explained that China runs a similar trainee programme to the UK, which allows the firm’s China practices to fall in line with the UK graduate recruitment strategy.
