The British Council has launched a new initiative to attract more British students to China. Generation UK is a three-year campaign that aims for over 15,000 UK students to participate in study abroad or internship programmes in China by 2016. The campaign will provide the practical support students need by working with governments, academic institutions, industry and commerce in both China and the UK.

China is a country of huge strategic importance for the UK, not only economically but also academically, and the benefits of more UK students engaging with China are manifold: for our students, universities, businesses and the UK as a whole. According to a CBI education and skills survey, 71% of employers are not satisfied with graduate language skills, and 55% perceive shortfalls in their intercultural awareness. Generation UK will help our young people develop global mindsets and skills to boost employability, with the ultimate aim of ensuring the future global competitiveness of business in the UK.
