The British Chamber and CBBC are delighted to announce a very special opportunity for our members in Beijing to meet with the Lord Mayor of London at a drinks reception at the Kerry Hotel.
The Lord Mayor acts as an ambassador promoting the City of London around the world as the world’s leading financial centre. His trip to China comes at an incredibly important time, following the UK’s vote to leave the EU with all of its implications for the UK’s financial sector. The Lord Mayor will address key post-Brexit issues such as access to the EU passporting scheme, as well as looking at the City of London’s growing role as an offshore RMB hub, the significance of the London-Shanghai Stock Connect, and sharing his unique perspective on the next stage in the evolution of the UK-China trade and investment relationship.
The role of Lord Mayor is an ancient one dating back to 1189 – Lord Mountevans, the current Lord Mayor, is the 688th person to hold the position. He spent over 40 years with Clarksons, the world’s leading shipbroker, including 13 years as Managing Director of the gas division, giving him a unique perspective on global supply chains and global energy markets. He sits as a crossbench (non-party) peer in the House of Lords, and is also Chairman of both Maritime UK and Maritime London.
N.B. The Lord Mayor will be present only for the first hour of this event so please arrive promptly. The other members of his business delegation will attend the whole event.
