CBBC and UKTI have been running more Going Global seminars in China. This ongoing series of events explains to Chinese companies how the UK's world class financial and professional services industry can help them expand their business overseas.

The event in Shanghai on 23 March focused on raising finance through London's capital markets. Over 60 Chinese companies came to hear about the benefits and technicalities of listing in the UK. The event was sponsored by the London Stock Exchange and PricewaterhouseCoopers, who spoke on the accounting issues involved in listing in London. Mayer Brown was also involved and spoke on the legal perspective, whilst Financial Dynamics covered PR and investor relations. The presentations were followed by a lively Q&A session and discussions between the UK and China attendees over lunch.

The momentum of this event was quickly followed by another seminar on SME finance in Hangzhou on 11 April. Around 80 more Chinese firms took part, a reflection of just how pertinent the issue is for Zhejiang's many private companies who lack the same access to capital as their SOE peers. A range of topics were covered. Standard Chartered introduced banking options whilst the London Stock Exchange and Mazars discussed listing. Stephenson Harwood and TSF Asset Management outlined the value of private equity, and Clyde and Co and Willis detailed how SMEs can manage risk for overseas investment and listings.

CBBC will be running more Going Global events later in the year, covering capital markets, Mergers and Acquisitions, outbound investment into the UK and third markets, and private equity.
