Chinese sovereign wealth funds have hit the main-stream media in recent months with allegedly unfounded rumours of a buy-out of Liverpool Football Club. While that rumour seems to have come to nothing, CBBC hosted Mr Jin Liqun, the Chairman of the Board of Supervisors of the China Investment Corporation (CIC) to find out about the real opportunities to engage with CIC.

Meanwhile, out in China a business delegation organised by CBBC joined the Lord Mayor of the City of London in meetings with the other two sovereign wealth funds, the State Administration for Foreign Exchange (SAFE) and the National Social Securities Fund (NSSF). All three SWFs indicated a willingness to work with UK companies, who have appropriate expertise to bring to the table.

The Lord Mayor and the 56 financial services sector practitioners who made up his delegation met with a series of senior government figures, regulators and businesses, as well as joining events investigating opportunities across the country in a range of financial services sub-sectors. There was a real interest on the part of Chinese companies to learn more about the gamut of financial and professional services the UK has to offer, and we look forward to hearing more from the delegation as to how these initial contacts progress over the coming months.
