Report: CBBC China Outbound Conference - Chongqing

CBBC held a successful China Outbound Conference in Chongqing on Friday 25 October. Some 90 attendees came from over 60 companies and organisations to hear speakers share their expertise in law, accounting, insurance and tax. 
 
 
Organisers and sponsors
The conference was organised jointly with the Chongqing Foreign Trade & Economic Relations Commission (COFTEC) and the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade Chongqing Committee (CCPIT), in partnership with the Chongqing Association of Small and Medium Enterprises and the Welsh Government office in Chongqing. 
 
It was sponsored by Willis and Amicorp Group.
 
Speeches
The audience showed great enthusiasm for the presentations, and many attendees expressed their desire to contact speakers to follow up after the conference. 
  • Simon Mellon, head of trade and investment at the British Consulate-General Chongqing, gave an introductory speech about UKTI's inward investment team and Marketing Birmingham.

  • Zhou Kui, head of the Chongqing Municipal Bureau of Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises, gave a keynote speech. He encouraged local enterprises that are going abroad and thanked CBBC for providing this opportunity to meet leading service providers in the outward investment sector.
  • Our first speaker, Steven Fan, director of Willis Insurance Brokers Co., Ltd discussed the opportunities and risks in overseas investment and mergers and acquisitions.
  • Benny Zhong, general manager of the Chengdu office of Amicorp Group, introduced the general structure of Chinese foreign direct investment and related financial instruments.
  • After the tea break, Julia Wang, chief representative of the Beijing office of the London Stock Exchange, shared her views on raising funds for international expansion.
  • The fourth speaker, Christina Huang, director of transactions and restructuring, transaction services, KPMG Advisory (China) Ltd, analysed tax framework planning, financial evaluation and related case studies.
  • Sinba Duan, senior Wales affairs officer at the Welsh Government office, introduced key business sectors in Wales and the benefits of investing there.
  • The last speaker was Xiong Jin, partner of King & Wood Mallesons in Beijing. He concentrated on the typical risks in Chinese overseas investment, and countermeasures to them.

Attendees included senior managers from local companies hoping to go global, as well as high-net-worth entrepreneurs interested in the UK from both a commercial and personal perspective.
