On almost a weekly basis, the Chinese media uncovers a new assortment of food safety scandals emerging all over the country. Whether nausea- inducing or down right bizarre, tales of exploding watermelons, luminous pork, tainted milk and gutter oil have led to a growing concern for food safety throughout the country’s households.

In the face of such concerns, foreign enterprises are capitalising on the opportunity to import products, but is this a feasible long-term solution considering increasingly strict food import policies and China’s large rural population?  What measures are actually being taken to ensure the safety of the food we eat and are these proportional? How do we know what we are really eating?

The Retail and Food Safety Forum is pleased to bring you an event that will focus on educating consumers about what to look for when buying food. Going behind the scenes, our experts will uncover what goes into food production, processing, certification and retail.

  • “Understanding your labels: food certification – what’s behind the label?” David Chen, CTI
  • “What do International processors do to assure food safety?” Chen Zhong, Mars Foods
  • “What do leading Chinese processors do to assure food safety?” Mr Han Zhaopeng, Deqingyuan Eggs
  • "Whole Process Food Safety and Quality Supervision of the Retailer," Mr. Xavier Bodenes, National Quality & Food Safety Director of Carrefour China, Secretary General of Carrefour China Foundation for Food Safety
