The China Science Festival will be held in the Beijing Exhibition Centre from 18 July to 3 August 2014, organised by the China Association for Science and Technology (CAST).
The total area will cover 20,000 sq m and the festival will include a range of educational activities. A 1,500 sq m room is set aside for one country to provide a showcase of its science, technology and innovation; the UK has been invited to be that country for the inaugural festival this year.
The estimated attendance is 200,000 people from all over China (although a similar event in Thailand in August 2013 attracted 1.2 million visitors). China Central Television and Tencent (owners of QQ and WeChat) are the main media sponsors so there will be plenty of publicity.
The UK Room
The Royal Society of Chemistry and the Institute of Physics are working with the British Embassy to put together exhibits for the UK Room. Surrey Satellites have agreed to take part and it is hoped that Sir Martin Sweeting will attend and give a keynote lecture.
How to get involved
BritCham/CBBC members interested in being involved in or exhibiting at the fair are invited to contact us to discuss how they can participate. There are notable opportunities for members in the high-end automotive sector, and for universities that would like the opportunity to display important research discoveries, or to distribute overseas student recruitment material at the fair (free of charge).
Fees and registration
Participation in the Science Festival is free for universities, charities and similar organisationsIt is expected that commercial organisations would make a financial contribution to the festival or sponsor it (to be negotiated with the organisers).
Interested parties should contact the Executive Committee through Ms Geng Jie (耿捷) by email at gototop2011@126.com or on 13681471350.
