From 16th to 19th May, a CBBC delegation attended the Expo Central China 2017 in Hefei the capital of Anhui Province and the city of Ma’anshan.
The delegation led by CBBC Executive Director, Jeff Astle, consisted of 15 companies including KPMG, Standard Chartered Bank, HSBC, Savills, Linklaters and the Welsh Government, was met with Mr Xin Changxin, Deputy Party Secretary of Anhui Province on the afternoon of 16th May and then attended the Expo Central China 2017.
On the morning of 17th May, the entire CBBC delegation attended the opening ceremony and plenary session of the Expo Central China 2017, where China’s Vice Premier， Wang Yang， delivered a keynote speech. This was followed by the governors of the six central provinces (Shanxi, Henan, Hubei, Hunan, Jiangxi, and Anhui) who outlined the key economic development priorities of their provinces, with an aim to promote trade and investment.
In the afternoon, the CBBC delegation attended the opening ceremony of the Anhui Trade and Investment Promotion Conference, at which Mr. Astle was a VIP guest of the Anhui Governor.
Later in the afternoon, Mr Astle led the delegation in a meeting with Mr Tong Daochi, Vice Governor of Hubei Province. During the meeting, Mr Astle discussed in depth with Mr Tong the different ways CBBC can enter into further cooperation with Hubei, and help more UK companies to establish or expand business in the region. Each delegate also introduced their business and future business plans at the meeting. After the meeting’s conclusion, the CBBC delegation attended the China (Hubei) Pilot Free Trade Zone Promotion Conference and dinner.
Following the visit to Expo Central China, on the 18th May the CBBC delegation was joined by Mr Tony Clemson, Deputy Consul General of the British Consulate-General Shanghai, and visited Ma’anshan City in Anhui province. The delegation visited Zhengpu Port New District, the biggest port and an emerging industrial centre in Anhui.
Later in the afternoon, Mr Zuo Jun, Mayor of Maanshan, met with the delegation and hosted a formal dinner. At the meeting, Mr Clemson exchanged ideas with Mr Zuo on facilitating more UK companies in establishing trade and investment links with Maanshan.
Mr Zuo, the Mayor of Maanshan will lead a delegation to visit the UK in early June and will have a follow-up meeting with Mr Jeff Astle on 2nd June at CBBC’s London office. Each delegate also introduced their business at the meeting.
CBBC will keep working on the policy updates and business opportunities arising in China’s central provinces, and will provide ongoing business advice and support to the business development and expansion of UK companies in central China.
