The British Chamber of Commerce in China and Chevening are delighted to host Paul French – author of the critically acclaimed Midnight in Peking, at the British Embassy pub, the Bell  for a talk on his personal accounts of China, previous experiences of living and working in Shanghai, and wider questions around Midnight in Peking and his new book City of Devils.

This is a perfect opportunity to listen to Paul speak candidly about his work and of course ask those burning questions you have always wanted to know: How did he research the project? What was Werner really like? Who was Pamela’s Killer? So join us for what will be a fantastic evening!

Paul French

Born and currently based in London, Paul French lived and worked in Shanghai for many years. He is a widely published analyst and commentator on China and has written a number of books, including a history of foreign correspondents in China and a biography of the legendary Shanghai adman, journalist and adventurer Carl Crow.

His book Midnight in Peking was a New York Times Bestseller, a BBC Radio 4 Book of the Week, a Mystery Writers’ of America Edgar award winner for Best Fact Crime and a Crime Writers’ Association (UK) Dagger award for non-fiction. Midnight in Peking will be made into an international mini-series by Kudos Film and Television, the UK creators of Spooks, Broadchurch and Life on Mars.

Please note that due to the security regulations of the British Embassy, registration for the event will close 24 hours prior to the event at 2:00pm on Tuesday the 6th of February. All attendees will be required to bring their passport, Chinese ID (身份证) or other accepted photo ID to gain access to the event.
