The British Chamber Young Professionals Development Programme celebrated its graduation ceremony on the evening of January 8th 2019 at the British Centre.
In its inaugural year, the 6-month programme consisted of mentor-led workshops on the subjects of ‘Leadership’, ‘Communication’, ‘Creativity’ and ‘Entrepreneurship’.
Charlotte Smith, YPDP organiser and Co-Chair of the YP Forum thanked those who have made the first year of the YPDP a success. She hoped that the fellows felt “that they have benefited, not only from the opportunity to learn from our mentors, but also from each other, as she had”.
Chairman of the British Chamber Executive Committee, Nicholas Holt, who presented certificates to graduating fellows, remarked that ‘Young British professionals are the future lifeblood of the British community and we are delighted that the first graduation ceremony that celebrated the first cohort of British professionals was so successfully received and we now look forward to the second year in 2019.’
Testimonials of the Overall Programme
“Being a fellow on the Young Professionals Development Programme has really exceeded my expectations. Workshops were thoughtfully designed in a way that balanced both information and practical application of learning, which helped me see the ways that I could start to use my newfound skills straight away. It is clear that a lot of work went into selecting the mentors for each workshop, too, with there being a great balance in both their personalities and delivery style, as well as the knowledge and experience that they brought to the workshop itself. I also feel privileged to have gotten to know and learn alongside such a wonderfully diverse and interesting group of young professionals, many of whom I will keep in touch with and hope to collaborate with further in the future.”
Vicky Small- YPDP Fellow, Flourish Project
“I believe that all of the participants of this inaugural BritCham YPDP, regardless their background, will find the trainings and industry insights from the group of eight high-calibre mentors to be highly useful for their future careers”.
Andrew Spivey, YPDP Fellow, Wild China
‘The YPDP programme not only delivered knowledge and experience – but also a sharing platform that was inspirational in many aspects, it promoted fellows to develop their self-consciousness and own reflection.’
Vela Wang, YPDP Fellow, Lehman Brown
“YPDP offered a fun, supportive platform to challenge myself and think outside the box. I would highly recommend it to any ambitious young professional in Beijing.”
Toby Tanner, YPDP Fellow, APCO Worldwide
“Supported by the active British Chamber YP Forum, the inaugural YPDP has been a huge success in tying the younger members of the British business community in with some of the more experienced members, the programme has not only provided an exchange of ideas and support but it has also provided the Chamber with a network going forward. “
