The China Energy Shenning Coal Industry Co.,Ltd (SNCG) coal to liquids (CTL) project was awarded silver in the mega-sized projects category at the 31st International Project Management Association (IPMA) Global Project Excellence Awards.
The project, for the development of the world’s largest CTL project by single plant, is located in Ningxia, China. Wood’s team of 160 specialists provided project management services to the complex, large-scale project commencing in 2012. Overcoming many challenges attributed to the sheer scale of the project, the team supported the plant to successfully come online at the end of 2016.
Over the past 12 years, Wood has leveraged its strong footprint in China, bringing together its in-country support teams and engineering capabilities to successfully deliver a number of projects for SNCG.
SNCG’s representative at the IPMA Awards, Mr. Yao Ming, project manager of the Shenhua Ningxia project was also awarded the IPMA Achievement Award, the Golden Prize of 2019 Project Manager. This was in recognition of his exceptional leadership and innovation in managing a highly complex project with 30,000 people, 800 organizations, new technology and a vast amount of materials involved.
Mr. Yao said: “Wood has witnessed the development of Shenhua Ningxia Coal Chemical Industry Base. Through an advanced management concept, the efforts of world-class talented teams and excellent service consciousness, Wood collaborated with SNCG to build an excellent development and made history in the fields of coal chemical engineering services.
“We firmly believe that Wood has been and will continue to be one of the best partners to SNCG.”
The award was announced at a gala held in Merida, Mexico on 1 October. The event hosted over 250 professionals from all over the world to celebrate personal successes, as well as the successes of their project teams.
Wood has also provided project management services to PetroChina Guangxi Petrochemical’s refinery project. This project was a gold winner of Project Excellence in Mega-Sized Projects at the 27th IPMA World Congress, held in Dubrovnik, Croatia in 2013.
